Danny and I celebrated 15 years of marriage in July. Danny had a lot of trips planned around that time, so I didn't think we would be able to do any kind of getaway for it. However, he decided to cancel one of his trips, which happened to be the one closest to our anniversary, so we planned a weekend getaway. He came up with about 6 different destinations, all located somewhere in Utah. I chose Zermatt Resort, in Midway. I had never been to Midway before and thought that Zermatt looked really nice. We left the kids with Grandma and Grandpa Wheeler on Thursday afternoon(the 26th and our anniversary) and stayed through Saturday around noon. We packed our weekend with a whole lot of fun and a little bit of relaxation. Thursday night, we had dinner at Tucanos before heading up into the mountains. We relaxed at the hotel that night, reading through memory books and scrapbooks about our sealing, reception, bridal showers, and first years together. It was fun to reminisce. Danny also surprised me with a ring, meant to compliment my wedding band and engagement ring.
On Friday, we were up early for a golf outing. I haven't golfed in so long, but I think I did pretty well considering how long it has been. I had heard that this course was one of the prettiest in Utah which is part of the reason I suggested it. I was a little disappointed to find out Danny had already golfed this course once before, but we still had fun.
After golf, we grabbed lunch at the restaurant at Zermatt, and then headed to our room to relax for a bit. That afternoon, around 4, we had a reservation for a razor rental. The razor outing was super fun. We got to drive up into the mountains, do some bumpy trails, hike a little, and just enjoy the outdoors.
We stopped at Cascade springs and walked around a bit there. We didn't want to do a full on hike, but got a little taste of the unique features there.
On the way back into town, we stopped at a pizza place and had dinner. One of the funniest parts of the weekend was my reaction to my dinner plate when they set it down. I had ordered a salad and personal pizza. I had expected the salad to come out first and then the pizza. However, they came out together with the salad in the middle of the plate and the pizza around the outside. At first glance, it looked to me like they thought I had ordered a salad pizza. The waitress set it down and I immediately said "Um...." I paused, not really sure how to put my thoughts into words. She then said "the salad is in the middle and the pizza is around it on the outside." Danny and I had a good laugh about it after she walked away.
After dinner, we returned the razor and then visited the hot tub and pool.
The next morning, we got up early again to play tennis. We finished the weekend off with a visit to the Homestead Crater. I'll let the pictures speak for this once in a lifetime experience.
The water was around 95 degrees and felt so nice. The worst part about the experience was the pool being full of scuba divers. It was fine when they were under the water, but then they would all surface, scaring us with all of the bubbles coming up around us, and make it very crowded on the surface. We enjoyed the soak, but probably wouldn't do it again for the price.
We had such a fun weekend and are so thankful to Mom and Dad for watching the kids for us. We've had a great 15 years together and we look forward to what the future hold for us and our family.
