Tyler's First Grade Devotional

Tyler had his first grade devotional at the end of January. He was so excited about it. It was mostly about the Restoration of the Gospel, Joseph Smith, and some of Brigham Young and the pioneers. He looked so cute in his costume and said his part so well. Sadly, our boys will not be going to American Heritage next year and the thing I'm going to miss most about it is the way they feel about these devotionals and the things that they learn about the gospel to prepare for them. Tyler taught us an entire FHE lesson about Joseph Smith and his first vision by himself. I know that is because of the things he learns at American Heritage.

A few weeks after the devotional, Danny's father sent us the following letter that had gone out to all of the faculty and staff at the school. It was sent to the head of the school from one of the Grandfathers that had come to the first grade devotional that day.
The letter is small and I'm hoping that it is readable when you click on it, but it basically describes how impressed this grandfather was when he was lost and Tyler offered him assistance to get him to the auditorium. Honestly, when I had read the letter, I did not believe that it was Tyler. It doesn't sound like him at all. He doesn't even look us in the eye when he talks to us and usually doesn't talk with much confidence and clarity. But he was pretty excited that day and I can see how that would effect his countenance. He even told us that he doesn't remember talking to the man. But his teacher confirmed that it was him, as she was standing right next to him and witnessed the whole thing. It was his moment in the spot light for a couple of days. I love my kids and am so proud of them when I see them do something amazing.

Alyssa's Basketball Season

Alyssa is almost done with another basketball season. They start a double elimination tournament tonight, so we will see how long they last. Their team had such a good start to their season. They won their first 3 games. It was around the 3rd or 4th game that Alyssa injured her middle finger.
One of those terrible basketball finger jams. I think it made her a bit hesitant for the next few games. They played the only other undefeated team in their 4th game. They hung with them pretty well, but ended up losing by a few points. And then the season went downhill from there. The next team they played was tough, but beatable. Unfortunately they lost. The low point was when they played the team that hadn't won a single game all season and lost to them, too. I'm not sure what happened to her team, but they ended the season 3-5, having lost 5 games in a row. Tonight they play a team that they have played 2 times during the regular season. They won once and lost once. We shall see how it goes.

Ashley's Glass Blowing Field Trip

Ashley had a field trip to Holdman Studios last month. I got to go with her. If you don't know what Holdman studios is, it is a stained glass making warehouse over by Thanksgiving Point. It was pretty interesting to see the details put into making a stained glass window and to learn how it is all done. As part of the field trip, Ashley got to make a blown glass flower.
Each student got to choose 2 colors for their flower. Ashley chose red and yellow, for Lula and Casey. She got to actually pull and shape her flower mostly by herself.
The finished product turned out pretty cool looking.

Camden Learns a Little Bit About Basketball

Camden went through another round of Itty Bitty Ball with Lehi City Recreation. This time, they learned the skills needed to play basketball. He was on team Pacers.
Here he is with his team and coach.

He was one of the biggest kids out there since it is a program for 3-4 year olds and he is pretty big for his age. So he had no problem running the ball down the court and slam dunking it. I wish I had gotten a clearer picture of it, but he was too fast.
He starts soccer again in about a month.

Alyssa's First Time Snowboarding

Alyssa has a good group of friends this year that consists of 4 girls and 3 boys. Over Christmas break, one of the boys in the group(Travis) invited all of the friends in the group to go snowboarding with him. Most of the friends couldn't go, but we let Alyssa try it out when her friend, Sara, decided to go. The three of them did cross country together and are now doing track together, as well, so they are pretty good friends. We were a bit nervous that she was going to fall and break something, but she ended up catching on really quick and had a fun day with her friends.

The only downside to the day was that she lost Danny's snow goggles and she was super sore the next day for her first basketball practice of the season. She loved it though and can't wait to go try it again.
